Things You Need to Know About Mukluks

Mukluks are soft boots originally worn by native North Americans to shield their lower extremities from the intense cold. These boots are made of either reindeer skin or sealskin. The animal skin that makes up this type of boots provides warmth to the ankles up to the calves and protects these body parts from the cold.

Mukluks can be embellished with fur of rabbit, fox, bear and other animals. Aside from being used as an adornment to the boots, fur adds insulation which is very vital to keeping the legs warm and protected from the cold weather. Also, these boots are often decorated with tassels and cool beadworks. These winter boots are soft-designed light boots that allow ease of maneuverability by the wearer. Before, aboriginal tribes across North America often wore these boots for hunting as they are light and thus allow hunters to move quickly and quietly.

Types of Mukluks

There is a variety of mukluks. One is the traditional mukluks which bear native designs called the Inuit boots. Inuit boots are made of animal skin bound together by an animal cartilage with a seam at the center running down at the bottom of the shoe. Another type of mukluks is with soft leather sole that is commonly used as leg warmers. On the other hand, today’s mukluk boots are designed based on the traditional ones only they are made with sturdy rubber roles and synthetic lining.

Mukluks and Fashion

Mukluks are not only winter boots insulate your feet from the cold; they are also fashionable footwear that you can flaunt in parties or any event you are attending. Though these boots are best worn during the winter months but there are those who also wear them in summer but it is uncomfortable on the feet as your feet become sweaty. Mukluks are great with skinny jeans, tights, boot-cut jeans or any denim that do not flare at the bottom as it looks hideous to see your boots overstuffed.

As for the top, this type of boots goes pretty well with any winter clothes. You can be in your jackets, long-sleeves shirts or hoodies; mukluk boots blend well with any of these.

These boots pretty go well with a casual look to the stunning party attire. Mukluk boots are also great with long sweaters that hold close to your thighs and tights or any skinny bottom. You will instantly look fabulous and stylish.
